Random thoughts & opinions from a true renaissance man…Well the
news cycle is spinning outta control. We can’t recover before the next
BIG thing overruns the media. Doesn’t it seem so five minutes ago
that everyone was sooo taken aback with the remarks made by radio
DJ & well-known curmudgeon Don Imus about the Rutgers Women’s
Basketball Team? Then…the tragic killings on the campus of Virginia
Tech…the complete acquittal of the Duke
lacrosse players…the scandals
surrounding Bushies Gonzalez and
Wolfowitz…the elimination from American
Idol of Sanjaya…the Alec Baldwin voice
mail…the hits just keep on comin. There’s
no time to fully reflect on the
circumstances, the consequences and the
implications. The Imus comment
controversy spawned a movement to clean up the lyrics of some
songs from some performers you probably never heard of and are
even less likely to purchase...which led to finger pointing at Corporate
America, the controllers of the tools of the trade… although technology
has predictably begun to expand rather than limit opportunities to
generate public interest in an artist’s work…but I have digressed (a
nasty by-product of having random thoughts ~ smile). Thus, I’m no
different than the majority of the American public that careens about
with no time or interest for full investigation and digestion. What
does it suggest about the collective manner in which the Duke kids
were initially vilified, but are now viewed as courageous (Reade
Seligman recently was awarded the highest honor from his High
School)...who really changed, hmmm? Perceptions about truth,
justice, race and class colored the entire case. Racial and cultural
issues certainly were the primary component in the outcry concerning
Imus…interestingly there was great ethnic diversity among those
killed at VA Tech by a crazed Korean national…& paraphrasing Brother
West, race always matters. Now go check Obama clowning Al
Sharpton about his buzzing blackberry at the podium during a recent
speech to eliminate any further discussion of his black cred. Obama is
running a well-paced campaign… remember the party conventions to
officially nominate candidates is ONE YEAR away. Unlike that fool John
McCain who actually thought he won a few years before he actually
announced his candidacy…lousy timing I guess is the culprit…but he
couldn’t really believe he was safe walking the streets of Iraq while
wearing a flak jacket and surrounded by a few hundred heavily armed
soldiers…yo, old man, it’s time to exit stage left…come this way sir for
your nice departing gift. So wazzup with Timbaland cavorting around
raising cheddar for Hil while David Geffen spoon feeds millions to
Obama…this election is gonna be funnn!!! And I’m nuthin if not a fun
guy…just like the so-called Chairman of the Board…ol’ blue eyes
himself…Sinatra’s Rat Pack of Sammy, Dino, Joey & Peter Lawford was
a fun crew that preceded and closely parallels today’s band of merry
men AKA Wu Tang Klan…take a moment…amazing multiple talents and
skills; solo and group success; distinct and distinctive
personalities…OK? Now can I get a moment to recognize one of my all
time classic faves “Sugar Pie Guy” by the Joneses … Sugar Pie Guy don’
t cha tell no lie to me …yeah, makes me wanna dance…so get me Laila
Ali to be my Ginger Rodgers…u gotta be clockin the daughter of The
Greatest on “Dancing With the Stars” cause she can shake it without
breakin it. And breakin it is what Barry Bee is gonna do to the MLB
Home Run record by the 4th of July…regrets to Hammerin’ Hank…I’m a
Bonds guy which means I ain’t hatin the playa for playin the game…&
not [yet] getting caught. Ahh lest we forget, to all the Valerie Plame
fans (she is indeed mighty fine!!!) Libby was convicted…Cheney is
implicated…& Bush has been politically castrated. Well, I thank you for
your time this time until next time.
