Jill Scott: Beautifully Human
by Craig Chapman
After a bit of a hiatus, the reigning queen of
neo-soul Jill Scott, has released her
sophomore studio CD entitled “Beautifully
Human: Words & Sounds Vol. 2”. This
project finds Ms Scott in a somewhat familiar
mood.

“Golden”, the first single from this CD, is the
hard driving track that burned up the radio
airwaves this summer. Jill drops the beat a bit, but maintains a hot
pulse on “Bedda At Home”, and “I’m Not Afraid”.  “Family Reunion”
with its poignant lyrics and smooth beats should have been the
anthem at all those gatherings. Ms. Scott expands her horizon with
“Talk With Me”, that starts out with a nice groove than elegantly
segues into a big band jazz sound that would make the jazz divas of
yesteryear proud.

Throughout Beautifully Human: Words & Sounds Vol. 2, we
experience the sensitive blend of Jill’s poetic flow with the new sound
of Philadelphia. “Can’t Explain (42nd Street Happenstance), and
“Whatever” have her signature laid-back groove, sung in the key of
life. For those of you that prefer the slow jams, “The Fact Is (I Need
You)”and “My Petition” are the songs for you.

Take a few moments to listen to the “Beautifully Human: Words &
Sounds” of Ms. Jill Scott, and take in Chapter 2 of her story.
