The Food Encyclopedia: Over 8,000
Ingredients, Tools, Techniques and People
Jacques L. Rolland and Carol Sherman
(October 2006)
The Food Encyclopedia is 701 pages with over
8,000 comprehensive entries and annotations
on foods, beverages, cooking methods and
wines as well as interesting and informative
biographies of well-known food and culinary
persons.

I am seeing food in a whole new light. Alphabetically arranged, you
can find out about Asti Spumante (Italian sparking wine) to Zuppa
(Italian for soup).
My first interest was shrimp (or seafood). I found The Food
Encyclopedia to define that, “There are hundreds of spices in two
categories: warm-water and cold-water, the latter generally being
smaller and more succulent.” Learning about food has always been a
fascination; and to become proficient in any area, thorough
knowledge is required. The Food Encyclopedia is an in-depth, full-
service resource of food, food equipment and notable people who
have and are impacting the world of food as pioneers, chefs, authors
and inventors. This is well worth the investment!
Cooking for Your Man
Yolanda Banks and Melissa Clark
Broadway - (September 2006)
Cooking for Your Man has passed NFL
Quarterback Tony Banks’ (6’4 and 229 his
Michigan State weight) seal of approval.
Yolanda Banks, author and soon-to-be
cookbook guru, serves up more than 150
recipes that she prepares regularly for Tony.
A variety of recipes can influence readers to infuse their menu with
new ideas, namely, Filet with Sautéed Onions and Mushrooms and
Cajun Seafood Pasta. (I made this, yum!) I also found the Creamy
Crab and Corn Chowder recipe that I had been searching for. (My
honey, James, is also from the Michigan where chowder is big!)
Simple foods from Cooking for Your Man made with quality ingredients
can be served at family dinners, entertaining events and casual
get-togethers with family and friends. I found the cookbook to be an
excellent guide for singles who may want to entertain more and offer
down-home food with an elegant flare. Yolanda and Tony Banks
reside in Dallas, Texas.
Beyond Beans & Rice The Caribbean Latino

by Lorena Drago (Author)
American Diabetes Association (ADA), (August
2006)
Diabetes is twice as common in Mexican
Americans and Puerto Rican adults, according
the ADA, than non-Hispanic whites. Beyond
Beans & Rice was developed to benefit
everyone to help control diabetes.
. It is informative to know that in the U.S. 20.8 million people have
diabetes (which translates to 7% of the American population).
Unfortunately percentages are much higher for people for Hispanic
heritage.
Meal plans, food labels, carb counting and holiday eating make
Beyond Beans & Rice by author Lorena Drago perfect for our upcoming
holiday season. Give a copy of this informative resource to a friend or
family member with diabetes.
