"Got to let it go": Angela Johnson
by Craig Chapman
It’s my pleasure to introduce you to a very
talented singer, songwriter, instrumentalist,
and producer, Ms Angela Johnson, one of
my favorite artists on today’s independent
soul scene. Her new CD is entitled “Got To
Let It Go”, released by Purpose Records
(I need to do a article about this New York
label…They got it going on).
“Got To Let It Go” is Ms Johnson’s second solo effort, and her sound
continues to evolve, as she unleashes a collection of songs that
represent the diversity of the soul/R&B genre. Her music has that
special groove that gives you perma-grin.

The album kicks off with “On My Way”, and “Anything”, two different
tales of love relationships, sung to Angela’s signature mid-tempo
rhythms. On  “I’ll Always”; love is still in the air, this time with a pop
beat reminiscent of Tina Turner.

Angela offers some advice when dealing with difficult life issues on
the title track “Got To Let It Go”. Things get a bit interesting with the
jazzy latin beats of “You’re Here With Me”, which will have you
dancing, and “Early Bird” which continues with a nice instrumental
groove, sprinkled with some vocals that would make Phyllis Hyman

If you like the slow jams, check out “Tell Me” and radio friendly duet
“Let’s Get Together” featuring Jermey James. For the dancers out
there, I submit, “Where’s The Love” for your consideration

Look folks, everybody’s been complaining about the lack of good
music of late, so here’s a remedy for what ails you. Pick-up “Got To
Let It Go”, the new CD from Angela Johnson
