Over time you meet all kinds of people on the internet.  I believe it’s a true gift when you find someone to keep in touch with over the years especially when you have never met face-to-face.  Perhaps the most contact you have is either thru text messages, IMs, e-mails or comments sent over “social-network” sites and (if you’re really connected) the occasional phone call.  You share all kinds of thoughts, ideas and emotions whether it be trivial or important… family, life situations, relationships, work, just plain gossip.  It’s all a matter of lending an ear, or even being a sounding board… no judgements are given (well, maybe just a suggestion or two).  Unfortunately, internet friendships come and go.  As with any relationship, it’s a question of strength and conviction.

I have a few internet-buds that I have been friends with for more than 10 years.  Not to say they are less important, but I also have a couple people that I have met within the last couple of years that I try to keep in close contact with.  I have come to regard these people as family… as they know more stuff about me than the average bear.  We’re not in constant daily communication but we are connected enough…  we know how to find each other when need be.

Today, I lost contact with someone whom I regarded as family… I’m puzzled and hurt… but I suppose that’s the way it goes.

Many people walk into your life… it’s the one’s that stick around that make it worth the ride.
